The Barrie Food Bank has turkeys to give out to families in need this Easter. “Our clients deserve to have a special meal at Easter” says Sharon Palmer, Executive Director of the food bank”. People experiencing food insecurity often don’t have a lot of choice in what they eat, and the restrictions on gathering can leave people feeling disheartened. The food bank is hoping to make the Easter holiday feel special by adding a turkey or a chicken to the grocery cart. The food bank provides a cart of groceries to households in need of help on a monthly basis with extras for larger families.
The numbers of households visiting the Food Bank in February was up 60% over last year. “We are thankful to the tremendous support we have received from our community over the past year,” say Palmer. “It is great to be able to make this happen for our clients. Everyone has been through so much in the past year. Anything we can do to reduce stress and help them feel supported is important.” For more information on the Barrie Food
