FOOD DRIVES
How to Run a Successful Food Drive
Running a food drive is a fantastic way to make a difference in our community! Here are some simple steps to get started:
1. Decide Where to Collect Food Items
-
Choose a central location, such as your workplace, school, or community center.
2. Set a Goal
-
Establish a target amount to collect (e.g., 200 pounds of non-perishable food items, which fills a grocery cart).
3. Pick a Timeframe
-
Define a start and end date for your food drive (e.g., October 10 to October 20). Clear timelines are key to success.
4. Focus on High-Need Items
-
Use our poster below containing the list of Most Needed Items. These essentials go a long way in helping our neighbors in need.
What to Collect and How to Donate Financially
We’ve created a convenient poster to support your efforts, it includes:
-
MOST NEEDED ITEMS LIST: A quick reference for the most in-demand non-perishable food items. Keep in mind that retail sizes are preferred over club sizes for client equity.
-
QR CODE FOR DONATIONS: Encourage financial contributions with the easy-to-use QR code, linking directly to our secure donation page. Monetary donations allow us to purchase fresh, nutritious items like meat, produce and dairy.
Extra Support for Drive and Fundraiser Organizers
-
Barrie Food Bank Tours: Organizers can arrange a tour to learn more about our operations and impact. Large group tours can also be scheduled.
-
Branded Materials: Use our professionally designed poster to promote your event effectively.
A Heartfelt Thank You
Your dedication ensures we continue working toward a Community Where No One is Hungry. Every effort counts, whether through food or financial contributions, and together, we’re making a real difference.
Let’s spread kindness and nourish our neighbours!

Give the Gift of Securites
For those fortunate enough to have done well in their portfolios, donating appreciated shares can be a very tax-efficient way to give. Because markets have been strong, many investors are sitting on significant capital gains. And when you donate securities directly, the capital gains tax that would normally be payable is eliminated.
One important note: it’s best not to leave this until the end of December. The transfer, valuation, and receipting process can take a couple of weeks, so starting early avoids year-end delays. As always, please consult with your personal advisor to ensure this option is right for you.
Please download our Gift of Publicly Traded Securities form. Please complete it and provide a copy to your financial institution to initiate the transfer. Once the transfer is complete and our RBC Dominion Securities account confirms the fair market value on the date of transfer, we will promptly issue your In-Kind charitable tax receipt.
Thank you for inquiring – gifts of securities are just another way to support Barrie Food Bank with the financial assistance to help us purchase healthy, fresh food for the 8,100+ people we support each month!
