The Barrie Food Bank will kick off its Thanksgiving Food Drive On Thursday October 3, 2013. Thanksgiving donation bags will be distributed through the Barrie Advance to local residents.

Our goal for the 2013 Thanksgiving Food Drive is to raise 140 000 pounds of food and 100 000 dollars which will replenish our shelves and our finances in order to meet the rising demands. Increase of the food bank usage is up by 17% in the last year. Last year 32 000 family members and individuals utilized the food bank. One third of these people are children. As well seniors are mow a growing number of our users.

Most needed foods are powdered milk, peanut butter,canned fruits and vegetables, can tuna and luncheon meats, Kraft dinner, juice and juice boxes, baby food, jam and honey, school snacks, rice, condiments, breakfast cereal, mayonnaise, sugar flour and toiletries.

No perishable food can be dropped off at any local grocery store including Zehrs, Metro, Sobey’s, Foodland Stroud, Food Basics, Freshco, and NoFRills. Perishable and non-perishable food can dropped off at the Barrie Food Bank located at 42 Anne Street South unit 2 behind Pioneer Pools, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm and Saturdays October 5, 12 and 19 from 9am to 1pm

Financial donations can be brought directly to the Barrie Food Bank during the hours above. They can also be mailed to Barrie Food bank, P.O. Box 145, Barrie ON L4M 4S9. Tax receipts will be provided.
