It is the Barrie Food Bank's mission to provide temporary food relief to individuals and families of our community who are in need, and to serve as a resource to encourage Providing hope to a community.and guide them along the road to self sufficiency. Our policies are designed to achieve this mission.
To this end we seek to discourage dependency and encourage self-sufficiency. In our treatment of those who come to us for assistance, we strive to demonstrate compassion and respect for their dignity, and to serve as a source of encouragement.

Beginnings

How did the Barrie Food Bank originate?

The Barrie Food Bank began as an amalgamation of church-based services in 1984. The desire was to consolidate efforts in a central location for assisting individuals and families in distress.

 

Services

What kind of service is offered to Barrie Food Bank clients?

Our primary service is the provision of food hampers to prevent families and individuals from going hungry. A key part of our mission is to encourage self-sufficiency, as well as personal and family well-being.


For this purpose, we have a resource centre of brochures and other information used in referring and advocating the needs of our recipients to other agencies and services.

 

Donations

What kinds of donations are accepted?

Cheques or cash can be hand delivered to the Barrie Food Bank at 7A George Street, or mailed to the Barrie Food Bank at P.O. Box 145, Barrie, ON L4M 4S9

Eligibility

Who is eligible to access the Barrie Food Bank services?

Eligibility for assistance is determined through proof of income, living expenses and residency in our service area. Please contact us for details.

Client are welcome to visit:

Mon / Wed / Fri 1pm - 3:30pm

Morning Drop-in is Mon to Fri 8:30am -11:30am

Of those we assist - 40% are children 60% of families are parented by single moms
